SigmaTel, a leading chip supplier in the MP3 market, has established SigmaTel Korea through the acquisition of Korean channel player Mooji. Using Mooji's local expertise, SigmaTel will support its Korean clients in technology and sales activities. Although the MP3 market is growing rapidly at the moment, with 2005 worldwide shipment volume forecasted to be 75 million units, recently demand has not been as strong as forecasted. Therefore, SigmaTel is also keen on developing other businesses in Korea, such as ICs for segments beyond MP3.
